Gym to Street: How to Wear Activewear Beyond the Gym

Gym to Street: How to Wear Activewear Beyond the Gym

Activewear has moved well beyond the gym. Who What Wear described a "sports day" mood on London's streets in 2026, with track pieces and retro trainers worked into everyday outfits (Who What Wear). The trick is knowing which pieces cross over well, and how to style them so they look like a choice, not like you forgot to change.

Why gym-to-street works

Good activewear is designed to move, stretch and stay comfortable all day. That makes it great for busy days that start with a workout and end with dinner or a night out. It also means fewer outfit changes and fewer clothes in your bag.

The NHS recommends adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week (NHS). If your clothes make it easier to fit that in around the rest of your day, that is a win.

What to look for in activewear that crosses over

Fabric

Look for four-way stretch and good recovery, so pieces hold their shape all day. Our VZI Super Sports pieces use an 82% polyester, 18% spandex fabric.

Support

For sports bras, check the support and the cup range. Our padded sports bras have removable padding and are best for A to C cups.

Design

Plain black activewear disappears into the gym. A strong print turns a sports bra or crop top into an outfit piece. Our VZI Endurance Series uses bold artwork such as Army 2075, Cybernetic and Crimson Deities.

The key pieces

Longline sports bra

A longline sports bra covers more of the torso, so it works easily as a top on warm days. The Cybernetic 2075 Longline Bra has a double-layered waistband. See the full longline sports bra collection.

Padded sports bra

A scoop neckline and racerback, with removable padding. Wear it under an open shirt or jacket. Our padded bras start at £55 at the time of writing.

Long-sleeve crop top

The easiest crossover piece of all. A printed long-sleeve crop top with high-waisted jeans and a belt is a complete outfit. Ours are £65 at the time of writing.

Tank top

A printed tank layers under a blazer or an oversized shirt.

Shorts

For men, our Army 2075 training shorts are a breathable, fast-drying piece for training and summer days. For women, our yoga shorts have a high waistband.

How to style activewear for the street

Rule 1: Add denim

The fastest way to make activewear look like an outfit is to swap the gym bottoms for good jeans. A longline sports bra or crop top with high-waisted straight jeans and a belt is clean and confident.

Rule 2: Add one structured layer

An oversized shirt, a denim jacket, a blazer or a leather jacket over a sports bra or crop top makes it look deliberate.

Rule 3: Switch the shoes

Clean leather trainers or boots instead of running shoes.

Rule 4: Keep the print as the hero

If the activewear is printed, keep everything else plain.

Outfit ideas

Brunch after a class

Printed longline bra, high-waisted straight jeans, a slim belt, an oversized white shirt worn open, clean trainers.

Festival day

Printed padded sports bra, mid-wash jeans with a belt, a light jacket around the waist and a cap.

Evening out

Long-sleeve crop top in a bold print, black straight jeans, a black belt, a leather jacket and ankle boots.

Men's gym to street

A fitted tee or rash guard after training, swapped into dark jeans with a belt and a hoodie on top. Our SuperSport Rash Guard is UPF 50+ with four-way stretch.

Caring for activewear

Performance fabrics last longer with gentle care. Wash cold, avoid fabric conditioner (it can affect stretch and moisture-wicking) and air dry rather than tumble drying. Rinse a rash guard in cool fresh water after each wear.

Made to order, in every size

Every piece of our activewear is made to order, so nothing is made until it is ordered. Sizes run from XS up to 2XL or 3XL depending on the style, and activewear charts use body measurements: measure yourself and choose the size that matches. See our size guide. Returns are free within 30 days.

Building a gym-to-street capsule

You only need a handful of pieces to cover training, errands and evenings:

  • Two printed sports bras (one padded, one longline)
  • One long-sleeve crop top
  • A pair of high-waisted straight jeans and a belt
  • An oversized shirt or denim jacket
  • Clean trainers for the street, proper training shoes for the gym

FAQ

Can you wear a sports bra as a top?

Yes, especially a longline sports bra. Pair it with high-waisted jeans and an open shirt or jacket.

What is the difference between a padded and a longline sports bra?

A padded sports bra has removable padding and a shorter shape; a longline sports bra extends further down the torso, so it works better as a top.

How do I make activewear look less gym?

Swap the bottoms for jeans and a belt, add a structured layer and change your shoes.

Do activewear sizes use body measurements?

Ours do. Measure your chest and underbust (for bras) or waist and hips, and choose the matching size.

How should I wash activewear?

Cold, without fabric conditioner, and air dry.
