How to care for a knitted jumper
Knitwear lasts for years with the right care.
Washing
Our Born On Mars knits are machine washable at 30 to 40°C. Turn the jumper inside out to protect the embroidery and use a gentle cycle.
Shrinkage
The sweater may shrink slightly after the first wash. Keep that in mind if you are between sizes.
Drying
Dry flat, gently reshaping it while damp. Hanging a wet knit stretches it.
Storing
Fold knits rather than hanging them, to stop the shoulders stretching.
Wash less
Knits often do not need washing after every wear. WRAP's research found that most people already wear knitwear more than once before washing, and washing less often is one of the habits that reduces the environmental footprint of laundry (WRAP).
Sizing

Why embroidery rather than print?
Embroidery is created with thread stitched into the knit, so it has texture and depth that a print does not. It catches the light, it feels raised under your fingers, and on a heavier knit it holds its shape. That makes it ideal for knitwear, where a flat print can look out of place. It is also why the care routine matters: turning the jumper inside out protects the stitching from rubbing in the drum.
